“99 Barbell” - Est. 2017
Located in Arcadia, CA, 99 Barbell holds the culture of discipline, respect, and hard work. With ancient wooden doors and a red color theme, this gym gives a feel for the tradition of Chinese martial arts. A gym for powerlifting and strength conditioning, 99 Barbell also offers acupuncture, cupping therapy, and meal plan services to supplement your workout.
KFKF: How was 99 Barbell started?
Julie: Prior to opening our gym, Tim and I were (and still are) realtors since 2014, and through real estate we saved our money hoping to start a business. My brother and sister started to get into powerlifting and were doing very well. It was a combination of Tim’s and my love for fitness, my sister’s and brother’s love for powerlifting, and my family's years of martial arts training that made us decide to open a gym.
KFKF: What are some steps you take to ensure that your facility reflects your culture and values?
Julie: We take great measures to keep our facility clean. We clean every day, just like a dojo in the movies: wax on, wax off. Cleanliness reflects discipline, so our members can see that our gym is clean and hopefully that translates into having discipline in their workouts. Another thing that we do at 99 Barbell is that we treat everyone with respect. We get to know everyone on a personal level, and we try to help them out in any way we can.
Kinda Fit Fact: We love squatting!
Kinda Fat Fact: We keep a bag of chips under our desk all the time.
