"I’ve been into sports since I was a kid. I used to do karate, played travel ball, and was part of my high schools softball team. I started frequenting 24 hour fitness when I was old enough to workout in my own, which was around 15.
Despite being athletic, I grew up having body image issues at some point having a bad relationship with food and the gym. I started powerlifting in 2011 just for fun. It wasn’t until 2017 that I finally decided I wanted to compete. After my first meet I knew this was the sport for me. I love the competitiveness but most of all I love seeing how strong I can be! I love what my body is capable of doing, how much weight it’s able to pick up, push and press. It was through this sport and brands like Kinda Fit Kinda Fat that I helped me learn to love myself at every stage of my fitness journey. I think back to how I would deprive myself of the foods I loved because I believed they would hinder all my work, and it saddens me that I ever thought that way. In present day I eat A LOT because my food is my fuel and it’s what my body needs to execute my lifts. Not everyday is a good day but everyday my goal is to remember that I am stronger and more determined than I ever was and to keep going!
Powerlifting drives me to keep doing better than the day before or better than the last time I hit that lift. I found it inspirational to see other women being strong as hell and not being scared to have muscles. I lift not only for me, but hopefully to be a role model for other women and our younger generations so they can see that strong and muscular is beautiful."
